Monthly picnics at Smith Mountain Airport resumed recently. Airport management has hosted the event for pilots and aircraft owners the past few years. At the most recent picnic April 23, more than 50 people attended a special gathering to remember Tom Duncan. Duncan was always easily spotted with his ponytail. In memory of Duncan, the airport’s float plane made several low passes over the runway with a large ponytail trailing from the aircraft. — Submitted by Charlie Walker
